Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions store owners ask most.

Why are fit badges not showing?

Check these in order:

  1. Theme settings > Vehicle fitment > Enable vehicle fitment is on.
  2. A menu is chosen in Vehicle list menu. Without it, the finder and My garage button do not show.
  3. Fitment data source matches where your data is: Product metafield or Product tags.
  4. The Fitment metafield or Fitment tag prefix setting matches your data exactly, for example custom.fitment or fit:.

Gift cards never show a badge.

Why does a part show “Check fit”?

There are two different messages:

  • Check fit: add vehicle means the shopper has not picked a vehicle yet.
  • Check fit details means the shopper picked a vehicle, but the part has no fitment data. Add fitment lines to the product, or mark it as universal.

If a part shows Does not fit when it should fit, check that the make and model in its fitment lines are spelled exactly like your vehicle list menu. See Fitment line formats.

How many vehicles can the finder hold?

The finder shows every make, model and year in your vehicle list menu. There is no limit in Datum itself, but the list must fit in one Shopify menu, and Shopify limits menu size. The vehicle list loads on every page, so a very large menu makes pages a little heavier. List the vehicles you actually sell parts for.

How do I add fitment to many products at once?

Use a Shopify product CSV import:

  1. Fill in fitment on one product by hand.
  2. Export your products from Products > Export. The file has a column for the Fitment metafield, if the metafield has a definition. Use that product as a pattern for the format.
  3. Fill in the column for your other products and import the file with Products > Import.

If you use tags, put the fitment tags in the Tags column, separated by commas, for example fit:2020 Jeep Wrangler JL, fit:2021 Jeep Wrangler JL. Bulk editing in the Shopify admin or a fitment app also works, as long as the data ends up in the metafield or tags.

How do I mark a part as universal?

Add the tag universal (or the tag set in Universal fit tag), or add a fitment line that says universal. The part then shows “Universal fit” for every vehicle. To show universal parts when shoppers turn on Only show parts that fit, set a Universal parts collection. See Universal parts.

How do I sell tires in sets of 4?

In Theme settings > Quantity, set Style to Preset buttons. Keep Preset quantities as 1, 2, 4:Set, 5:With spare, set Preset selected by default to 4, and list your tire product types in Product types that use presets. Other products keep the stepper. The product page and quick add both use these settings. See Quantity selector.

Can I remove the vehicle finder?

Yes. To remove all fitment features, turn off Theme settings > Vehicle fitment > Enable vehicle fitment. This hides the vehicle finder, My garage and fit badges. To keep fitment but remove the finder from the home page, turn off Show vehicle tab in the Hero with vehicle finder section.

Can I translate Datum into other languages?

Datum includes English text. To sell in more languages, add them in Settings > Languages and translate your store with the free Shopify Translate & Adapt app. The language selector shows in the footer when you have more than one language. To change the English text, use Edit default theme content. See Updates and custom code.

Does Datum support multiple currencies?

Yes. Set up countries and currencies in Settings > Markets. The country selector shows in the footer when you sell to more than one country. To show codes like USD next to prices, turn on Theme settings > Currency format > Show currency codes.

Does Datum work with apps?

Yes. Many apps add app blocks, which you place in the theme editor with no code. Datum accepts app blocks in Product information, Featured product, Product details, Image with text, Blog post, Contact form, Footer and the Apps section. Product reviews apps that save ratings in the standard rating metafield also show stars on product cards. See App blocks. We do not provide support for third-party apps.

Is Datum fast?

Datum loads videos and 3D models only when shoppers start them, and turns off entrance animations for shoppers who prefer reduced motion. To keep your store fast, use the recommended image sizes, remove apps you do not use, and keep your vehicle list to vehicles you sell parts for.

Do returning customers keep their saved vehicles?

Yes, on the same browser. My garage saves up to 5 vehicles in the shopper’s browser. They are not linked to a customer account, so they do not move to a new device or browser, and they are lost if the shopper clears their browser data.

Can I see which vehicle a customer picked?

Yes. The vehicle is saved as a cart attribute named Vehicle, so it is stored with the order. You can also turn on Show vehicle field in the Contact form section to fill in the vehicle on contact messages.

Can I change the code?

Yes, but code changes are not included in support. Duplicate the theme first (Online Store > Themes > three dots or Actions > Duplicate). For custom work, hire a Shopify Partner. See Updates and custom code.

How do I get support?

Use the support form. We reply within two business days, Monday to Friday. Include your store URL, your theme style (Datum or Tread), and what is happening.
