Tire size search

Let shoppers find tires by the size on their sidewall, like 315/70R17 or 35x12.50R17.

How the tire size finder works

The tire size finder is a tab in the Hero with vehicle finder section. Shoppers pick three values:

FieldChoices
Width185 to 335, in steps of 5
Aspect ratio25 to 85, in steps of 5
Rim14 to 26

Datum joins them into a size like 315/70R17 and shows matching tires.

Flotation sizes

Shoppers with larger off-road tires can switch the finder to Flotation. It then asks for:

FieldChoices
Diameter28 to 44 in
Width8.50 to 16.50 in
Rim15 to 26 in

Datum joins them into a size like 35x12.50R17.

Show the tire size tab

  1. In the theme editor, open the home page and click Hero with vehicle finder.
  2. Turn on Show tire size tab.
  3. To open the finder on this tab, set Tab shown first to Tire size.
  4. Click Save.

The Tread style has the tire size tab on, and shown first, by default.

Add tire sizes to your products

For the best results, store each tire's size in a metafield. The setting is Theme settings > Vehicle fitment > Tire size metafield (default custom.tire_sizes).

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Metafields and metaobjects > Products.
  2. Click Add definition. Name it “Tire sizes” and check that the namespace and key is custom.tire_sizes.
  3. Choose Single line text, then List of values. Save.
  4. On each tire product, add its sizes, for example 315/70R17 or 35x12.50R17.

Write sizes exactly like 315/70R17 or 35x12.50R17 (lowercase x): no LT or P in front, no spaces, and no load index or speed rating at the end. The finder searches for that exact text.

Add the tire size filter

  1. Open the Shopify Search & Discovery app.
  2. Go to Filters and click Add filter.
  3. Choose your Tire sizes product metafield and save.

When a shopper clicks Find tires, Datum opens the all products collection, filtered to that size.

Without a metafield

If you clear the Tire size metafield setting, the finder uses your store search instead. It searches for the size text, like 315/70R17. Make sure the size is in each tire's title or tags so search can find it.

Sell tires in sets of 4

Use the Quantity selector block on the product page with preset buttons. See Quantity selector.

Tire size decoder section

The Tire size decoder section explains each part of a tire size, for example what 315, 70, R and 17 mean. It is for information only. It does not search.

  1. In the theme editor, click Add section and choose Tire size decoder.
  2. Set the Eyebrow and Heading.
  3. Add a Size part block for each part of the size. You can add up to 8.
