Install Datum from the Theme Store
- Go to the Datum page on the Shopify Theme Store.
- Choose a style: Datum or Tread.
- Click Try theme to preview it in your store, or buy it.
- Datum is added to your theme library in Online Store > Themes. It is not live yet.
- Click Customize to open the theme editor and start setting it up.
- When you are ready, click Publish.
Choose a style
Pick Datum if you sell general parts. Pick Tread if you mainly sell tires and wheels. Both have the same features. See the overview for the differences.
To try the other style after you have bought the theme, add Datum again from the Theme Store with the other style selected. Each copy appears as a separate theme in your theme library.
Recommended setup order
Set up your vehicle data first. The finder, fit badges, filters and cart check all depend on it.
- Create the vehicle list menu. This is the list of makes, models and years for the finder. See Add your vehicle list.
- Choose where fitment data lives. Use a product metafield (recommended) or product tags. See Add fitment data to products.
- Add fitment data to your products. Do a few by hand first, then import the rest in bulk.
- Add the fitment filter in the Search & Discovery app, so the “Only show parts that fit” switch appears. See Turn on “Only show parts that fit”.
- Add specs. Fill in the specs metafield so cards and product pages show part data. See Add product specs.
- Set up menus for the header and footer. See Header and footer.
- Set up the home page. See the next step.
- Check colors, fonts and logo in Theme settings.
Set up the home page
- In the theme editor, open the Home page.
- Click Hero with vehicle finder. Add your heading, text and an image.
- Choose which finder tabs to show: Show vehicle tab, Show part number tab and Show tire size tab. The vehicle tab only shows when vehicle fitment is on and a vehicle list menu is chosen.
- In Collection list, pick the collections for your main categories.
- In each Featured collection, add a Collection tab block and pick a collection.
- In Blog posts, pick a blog, or remove the section if you do not blog.
- Add, remove or reorder sections as you like. See Sections.
- Click Save.
Test with the password page on
Keep your store behind a password while you test. Shoppers then see the password page, but you can still use the store.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.
- Under Password protection, turn on Restrict access to visitors with the password and set a password.
- Preview your store and test the full shopper path:
- Pick a vehicle in the finder.
- Open a product that fits and one that does not. Check the fit badges.
- Turn on Only show parts that fit on a collection page.
- Add a part that does not fit to the cart and check the cart warning.
- Try the site on a phone.
- Edit the password page in the theme editor: choose Password from the page list at the top of the editor.
- Turn off the password when you are ready to launch.
